Gwinn man injured, cited after vehicle crashes into semi truck

MARQUETTE — A Gwinn man was cited for careless driving after his vehicle crashed into the back of a semi at about 4 p.m. Thursday along M-553 near Kelly Johnson Drive.

Deputies from the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the scene of the accident which involved a passenger car and a semi-tractor trailer. A 2018 Ford Fiesta, driven by a 72-year-old man from Gwinn, was southbound on M-553 when he failed to stop and crashed into the back of the semi, which was stopped waiting to turn left onto Kelly Johnson Drive.

The driver of the semi, a 43-year-old Gwinn man, was uninjured.

The driver of the car suffered a broken wrist, a broken collarbone and other minor injuries. A dog in the car was killed.

The car was totaled, deputies said. The driver was cited for careless driving.

Assisting at the scene were the Sands Township Fire and EMS departments, UP Health Systems EMS and the Forsyth Township Police Department.
