MARQUETTE — The Northern Michigan University flag will be lowered to half-staff Thursday in remembrance of NMU student Sandra Gibbons, who passed away April 16.

Gibbons, of Christmas, was raised in the central Upper Peninsula and graduated from Gwinn High School in 1992. According to an NMU email, she had a passion for the outdoors and worked in the tourism industry in Alaska and Oklahoma.

Gibbons was attending NMU to continue her education at the time of her death. She was a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians. A full obituary can be found at www.bowermanfuneralhome.net/obituary/Sandra-Gibbons.
