SAULT STE. MARIE — A 14-year-old boy has been charged in the shooting death of a 10-year-old in Lakefield Township, the Michigan State Police Sault Ste. Marie Post announced.

MSP said that at about 8 p.m. Tuesday, troopers from the post were dispatched to a residence in Luce County’s Lakefield Township for a shooting involving a 10-year-old girl. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The 14-year-old boy was located at home and arrested.

The suspect was arraigned on one count of open murder in 92nd District Court and is being held at the Sault Tribal Youth Facility.

Due to the ages of the victim and suspect, no names will be released, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.
