Downstate teen dies in snowmobile accident

MUNISING — A downstate teenager was pronounced dead after a snowmobile crash in Alger County on Saturday.

Alger County Dispatch received several reports around 6:16 p.m. of a snowmobile accident on Trail No. 7 in Au Train Township.

The investigation concluded that a 16-year-old male, identified as Thomas Timothy Watson from downstate Alma, failed to negotiate a curve and struck several trees, according to a news release from the Alger County Sheriff’s Office.

Watson was transported from the scene to Munising Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, officials said.

Assisting at the scene were Alger County EMS, Rescue 21, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Guardian Flight.
