Incumbent Markkanen takes 110th District seat

MARQUETTE — Incumbent Greg Markkanen, R-Hancock, has won the race for the Michigan House of Representatives’ 110th District seat, defeating Democratic challenger Janet Metsa.

Markkanen garnered 25,805 votes, for around 57.5% of the total, while Metsa received 18,463 votes, giving her 41% of the total, according to unofficial results from the Michigan Secretary of State. U.S. Taxpayers candidate Jim Hafeman garnered 644 votes in the election.

Markkanen will serve a two-year term in the seat, which represents residents of Baraga, Gogebic, Houghton, Iron, Keweenaw, Marquette and Ontonagon counties.State representatives may serve a maximum of three full terms.

All election results are unofficial until they have been certified by the Marquette County Board of Canvassers, which is expected to meet at 10 a.m. today.
