Charges brought in fatal October vehicle crash

Counts include 4 felonies

MARQUETTE — A Marquette woman is facing updated felony charges related to a fatal crash on Oct. 23.

According to a Marquette Police Department press release, the updated charges were filed against Brianna Jacobson, 21, on Friday.

Jacobson was arrested on a four-count felony warrant including one count of Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death, two counts of Operating While Intoxicated Causing Serious Injury, and one count of Child Abuse 2nd Degree.

Bond on all four counts was set at $10,000 cash/surety, the release states.

Officials say Jacobson was driving a vehicle southbound on M-553 just south of the Marquette Mountain Ski & Bike Area, which struck a northbound vehicle. A 25-year-old Marquette man riding in the rear passenger seat of Jacobson’s car was killed.

A 28-year-old Marquette man and a 4-year-old male child from Marquette, who were also passengers in Jacobson’s vehicle, sustained serious injuries in the crash. The child was transported to UPHS-Marquette and later to C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor where he is still receiving treatment for his injuries.

The 28-year-old man has since been released from UPHS-Marquette, officials say.

The 41-year-old driver of the northbound vehicle and his two juvenile passengers were not injured in the crash the release states.

Jacobson is scheduled for arraignment in Marquette County District Court before Judge Karl Weber at 8:15 a.m. Dec. 1 via the Zoom teleconferencing platform according to officials from the Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office.
