MARQUETTE — Absentee voters are turning out in record numbers in Michigan. As of Friday, MLive reported that 3.1 million registered voters in the state had requested absentee ballots and about 2 million had cast their votes.

Even though the general election is just days away, registered voters are still able to request an absentee ballot up to 4 p.m. on Monday, according to a Michigan Secretary of State fact sheet.

All valid absentee ballots with a matching voter signature received by a local clerk before 8 p.m. on Tuesday will be tabulated, the fact sheet states.

Voters who have not cast a ballot, would prefer not to vote in person due to COVID-19 or other concerns, and have not yet obtained an absentee ballot are still able to do so.

Individuals can register to vote and obtain a ballot at the same time up until Election Day, officials say.

Under Michigan’s voter identification requirements, voters should expect to present up-to-date and accurate photo identification in order to request a ballot or, if they do not have it, to sign an affidavit.

Acceptable forms of ID include: a Michigan driver’s license or state identification card, a driver’s license or state ID card issued by another state, a valid U.S. passport, a federal or state government-issued photo identification, a military ID with photo, a student ID card or a tribal identification card with photo.

Voters should make sure to sign the back of their ballot-return envelope and hand-deliver the ballot to the city or township clerk’s office or a drop box in their jurisdiction no later than 8 p.m. on Tuesday. Ballots can be tracked at Michigan.gov/vote.
