Stannard Rock cleanup

Great Lakes Conservation Corps leader Trevor Slinkard, left and GLCC crew member Emma Stafford stand before Stannard Rock Lighthouse as part of a project between the Superior Watershed Partnership and the U.S. Coast Guard Station Marquette to service the lighthouse. About 42 miles from Marquette in Lake Superior, the Stannard Rock Lighthouse is the farthest lighthouse from a coast in the United States and often is referred to by the Coast Guard as one of the loneliest places in the country. GLCC’s rehabilitation efforts included a deep clean of the lighthouse’s interior and measurements for the replacement of breached windows. The service to Stannard Rock yielded 13 bags of debris that were hauled back to the mainland with the help of the U.S. Coast Guard. The SWP runs the GLCC. (Photo courtesy of the GLCC)
