Class of ‘69 raising funds for Vista

NEGAUNEE — Fundraising efforts are well underway to save the Historic Vista Theater in downtown Negaunee and one lifelong Upper Peninsula resident is presenting a challenge to the community.

Fran Lukkarinen, who resides in Gwinn, is a Negaunee High School graduate from the Class of 1969.

Lukkarinen said the class treasurer — who now lives downstate — heard about the Vista’s roof collapse.

And now, they want to do their part as a class in helping to save the theater.

Lukkarinen said they’ve received a great response from classmates who want to pitch in, and they’re challenging other NHS classes to do the same.

The hope is for other classes to match what the Class of ’69 has donated, but if another class tops the matched donation mark, it won’t matter to Lukkarinen, who said the more money to save the theater, the better. Lukkarinen wants it to be a friendly competition and hopes to have a major donation to turn in by the end of the month.

Other donation options are still available as well.

Those who would like to donate can go to www.vistatheater.org/donate and a GoFundMe campaign has also been set up. The link to the GoFundMe page can be found on the Vista Theater’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/paacvistatheater.
