Emily Bateman, a senior at Northern Michigan University and an intern with Partridge Creek Farm in Ishpeming, works at the school garden by Ishpeming Middle/High School during Wednesday’s Partridge Creek Farm Tour and Showcase. Visitors could view the various farm sites in the area. Bateman, who said a new Partridge Creek site is to be installed east of the school garden, will be the organization’s farm-to-school educator this school year. On Wednesday, she had people compare locally grown and store-bought carrots, and talked about the garden where Ishpeming fifth-graders help out. Fruits and vegetables growing in the school garden this year include strawberries, beans, peas, yellow squash, tomatoes, spinach and carrots. (Journal photo by Christie Mastric)
