Metsa wins Democratic primary for State Legislature 110th District in Marquette County

MARQUETTE — Janet Metsa won the primary election in Marquette County fore the State Legislature’s 110th District with 551 votes. Contender Lawrence Dale received 198 votes and contender Casey VerBerkmoes recieved 76 votes, 3 write-in votes were also cast. Metsa will face off against incumbent Republican Gregory Markkanen in the Nov. 3 election. Markkanen ran unopposed in Tuesday’s primary.

Metsa was declared the overall winner in the 7-county primary according to preliminary overall results posted by the Associated Press

The winner of the Nov. 3 election will serve a two-year term in the seat which represents residents of Baraga, Gogebic, Houghton, Iron, Keweenaw, and Ontonagon counties, as well as Ishpeming Township and Powell Township in Marquette County.

Election results remain unofficial until the Marquette County Board of Canvassers verifies them at a 1 p.m. meeting today.
