Marquette resident dies in crash on County Road 550

MARQUETTE — A 57-year-old man from Marquette died in a three-vehicle crash this afternoon on Marquette County Road 550.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash, which took place at 4 p.m. on County Road 550 near Compeau Creek Road in Marquette Township. The sheriff’s office said the 57-year-old driver was heading northbound in a 2007 Buick Lacrosse on County Road 550 when he crossed the center line and struck a 2015 GMC Sierra driven by a 67-year-old man from Marquette, who was traveling southbound.

The Lacrosse continued northbound in the southbound lane and struck a 2008 Ford F550 driven by a 34-year-old Gwinn resident, who was traveling southbound behind the GMC. All three vehicles sustained heavy damage.

The driver of the Lacrosse was taken to Upper Peninsula Health System-Marquette for life-threatening injuries. The driver was pronounced dead at the hospital, and the family has been notified. The driver of the GMC denied medical treatment on the scene. The driver of the Ford sought medical treatment on his own.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Marquette Township Fire and EMs, UPHS EMS and the Michigan State Police.
