Marquette County treasurer primary held

MARQUETTE — Incumbent Nicholas LaPorte Benson will appear on as the Democratic candidate for the Marquette County treasurer on the Nov. 3 ballot.

Laporte Benson received 5,898 votes, roundly defeating his sole opponent Russell Pomeroy who garnered 4,410 votes during Tuesday’s primary, 26 write-in votes were also cast

The Marquette County Treasurer serves a four-year term and is responsible for property tax collection as well as receiving, recording and investing all money received by the various county departments, according to the Marquette County website.

As of press time on Tuesday evening, no Republican candidate was listed on the Marquette County Clerk’s candidate listing.

Election results remain unofficial until the Marquette County Board of Canvassers verifies them at a 1 p.m. meeting today.
