Marq Tran/ Powell and Sands Millages approved

MARQUETTE — Marquette County voters approved a proposition to provide funds for Marq Tran’s continuing operations and capital purchases by a margin of 10,905 to 3,141.

With the millage, the total amount of ad valorem taxes collected will be renewed at and increased up to the previously authorized .6 mill, of which .5911 mill is a renewal of the previously authorized millage and .0089 mill is an additional new millage, for 2020-26.

Taxes collected in the first year are expected to amount to about $1.46 million.

Other approved millages include:

Powell Township

Voters approved a request to renew the operating millage of 2.5 mills for five years, from 2021-2025, for all township purposes by a margin of 161 “yes” to 101 “no” votes.

The millage is/was estimated to generate $220,300 in the first year.

Sands Township

Voters approved the township’s request for an expired previously voted increase of .8973 mills, reduced to .8286 by the required millage rollbacks, be renewed at up to .8286 mills and levied for 2021-2024 for continued operations or providing services to township residents by a ratio of 478 to 75. The renewal would raise an estimated $69,900 in the first year.

Voters also approved — 440 “yes” to 113 “no”votes, an expired previously voted increase of 1 mills, reduced to .9998 mills by the required millage rollbacks, to be renewed at up to .9998 mills and levied for 2021-23 to provide library services by the Peter White Public Library for township residents. It’s estimated the renewal will raise $84,300 in the first year.

Election results remain unofficial until the Marquette County Board of Canvassers verifies them at a 1 p.m. meeting today.
