Glendon resigns from MAPS school board, position to be filled soon

KEITH GLENDON Marquette "Andy Kaufman. His comedy, like mine, was for him and not for anyone else. He was a zany guy and a lot of people didn't get him, but he didn't care."

MARQUETTE — Keith Glendon, a trustee of the Marquette Area Public Schools Board of Education, submitted his letter of resignation Monday to MAPS Superintendent Bill Saunders and MAPS board President Rich Rossway.

The resignation is effective immediately.

“On personal reflection over recent weeks, I have determined it’s in the best interest of my family and my business I prioritize these elements of my life,” Glendon wrote. “It has been an honor to serve with you, to collaborate with you, to support you and learn from you.

“This decision has been difficult — particularly as the district faces some of the greatest challenges that our community, our state and our nation have ever seen. Please know that I will always stand ready to be of service where I’m able. For now, however, I must give all of my energy to those areas I’m able to make the most important impact.”

Given all of the developments of the past six months, Glendon said, that means a focus on his wife and children, his health, and his employees and clients.

“It’s my sincere hope that this difficult decision will — in hindsight — be among the reasons I’m able to remain an enduring asset to the district, our community and our children in the long run,” Glendon wrote. “Thank you for your support, your leadership and your service.”

Glendon recently started Campfire CoWorks in the former Ampersand Coworking space along West Washington Street in Marquette. He also is founder and CEO of the technology company LucidCoast.

“Keith was an effective board member that was an important part of our team,” Rossway said in a social media post. “His contributions will most certainly be missed. The board wishes him and his family the very best.

“Personally, I consider Keith a friend. His perspective and willingness to speak on important issues made our school district a better place.”

Rossway said the board has 30 days from Tuesday to make an appointment to fill Glendon’s term, which runs through the end of the year.

MAPS will have two open six-year seats contested in the Nov. 3 election.
