Police release name of man killed in Thursday logging truck accident
MARQUETTE — The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of a man killed in a logging truck accident early Thursday morning.
Killed in the accident was Ted Wayne Strong, 60, of Trout Creek.
Strong was the operator and owner of the logging truck. He had stopped on the side of M-95 near the U.S. 41 intersection at about 12:40 a.m. Thursday.
Strong was out of the truck when the vehicle started to roll forward. It is believed Strong may have tried to run around the front of the truck to get in the cab when he was struck and killed, according to a sheriff’s office news release.
The truck rolled down the hill and ended up striking the Corner Cafe, which is located on the southwest corner of M-95 and U.S. 41. The cafe was damaged by the collision.
Mechanical failure and human error are believed to be contributing factors in the accident, the release states.
The Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Division is assisting in the investigation, which is continuing.
