County health department recommends quarantine for travelers to the Upper Peninsula

MARQUETTE — To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Marquette County Health Department is strongly urging individuals to limit travel to the Upper Peninsula.

Michigan’s Executive Order 2020-42 prevents nonessential travel within Michigan, but does not require quarantine — as other states have — for those traveling between regions or upon entering the states, a press release from the MCHD states.

To provide additional safeguards against COVID-19 within the community, the MCHD asks that those traveling to the U.P. quarantine at home or elsewhere for 14 days from the time of arrival.

To self quarantine means staying in place for 14 days and limiting travel within the community unless absolutely necessary, the release reads.

It’s recommended that you bring essential items, such as food, with you to avoid travel within the community upon arrival.

While the U.P. does not have the high number of positive cases found in other areas, COVID-19 is present within the U.P. communities, officials said.

Even if you are not ill, you may be carrying the virus and may spread it to others.

The MCHD continues to strongly advise all members of the public to adhere to social distancing; Stay Home; Stay Safe orders; and specific hygiene recommendations in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19. All individuals should be wearing a mask while in public.
