Two dead after house fire

PORTAGE TOWNSHIP– A structure fire claimed the lives of two Mackinac County residents Saturday.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police St. Ignace Post are investigating the fatal structure fire in Portage Township.

Troopers responded to an address in Portage Township of Mackinac County at approximately 8:30 a.m. after receiving a report that multiple fire departments were battling a structure fire, a press release from the MSP states. It was further reported that there were two occupants of the residence who were unable to escape the home. Upon arriving on the scene, the troopers discovered that fire department officials had located two deceased residents inside the home.

The names of the victims are not being released at this time. The investigation is continuing with the assistance of members of the MSP Fire Marshal Division.

The structure fire was battled by the Portage Township Fire Department, Garfield Township Fire Department, Newton Township Fire Department, Columbus Township Fire Department and Newberry Fire Department.
