Stranded sledder found after snowmobile broke down

CHAMPION — A snowmobiler was rescued in Champion Township after being stranded for roughly six hours Saturday.
Jason Goletz, 42, of Pontiac was located by Marquette County Sheriff’s Office deputies around 11:54 p.m. Saturday as he was walking on Trail 5 in Champion Township.
He was found fatigued but in good health and no medical attention was required, a press release from the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office states.
Goletz’s snowmobile had broken down and he had been walking since 5:30 p.m.
Central dispatch had received a call in reference to a stranded snowmobiler on Trail 5 north of Trail 8 in Champion at approximately 7 p.m.
Original information released stated that the snowmobiler had been broken down since 5:20 p.m. and that the individual was possibly walking south on Trail 5 somewhere south of Marquette County Road AAA.
After Goletz was found, he was transported back to Wolf Lake Road and Trail 8 where deputies had patrol units standing by.
At about 1:45 a.m., deputies departed Wolf Lake Road and transported Goletz to the Maple Ridge Resort in Michigamme.
