Troutman takes over at Journal as publisher

Ann Troutman, publisher, The Mining Journal

MARQUETTE — Ann Troutman was officially named publisher of The Mining Journal Wednesday.

Troutman, previously the director of advertising at the Journal, comes with nearly 18 years of experience in the newspaper industry. From her start at the Escanaba Daily Press she transferred to Parkersburg News and Sentinel in Parkersburg, West Virginia, and the Marietta Times in Marietta, Ohio, before being transferred back to Marquette in July 2018 with her husband, a Navy veteran, and three children. Her eldest son lives in Escanaba with his wife and her three granddaughters, while her two other children live in Marquette, though one will be moving to Seattle in the new year.

She is the first female to ever serve as publisher of The Mining Journal and looks forward to bringing a fresh perspective to the paper.

“Coming out of the advertisement side, I like to be really creative,” Troutman said. “Everybody needs to look at things through different eyes and different perspectives. Change isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it’s a good thing. Our industry has changed in the last 15 to 20 years. We’ve seen a lot of changes in our business and we have to respond to those changes.”

Troutman is excited to continue working in the community she deems “a jewel of the north” with a mix of people and interests, she said.

“We appreciate the support of the newspaper for all these years,” Troutman said. “We’re looking for growth and we’re looking forward to what we can do as a community newspaper.”
