Irontown Association, Iron Range Hockey receive grants

NEGAUNEE – The Negaunee Irontown Association and the Iron Range Hockey Association are the beneficiaries of this year’s Negaunee Community Contributions grants.

The grants, consisting of $1,000 to NIA for the 40th annual Pioneer Days Celebration, and $500 that will be used to upgrade the IRHA concession stand, are made possible via community relations funding from WPPI Energy.

“WPPI knows how important it is to be good stewards of the community. We are happy to be part of the great things happening in Negaunee,” WPPI, Senior Energy Services Representative Brett Niemi said.

A total of $20,117 has been given through this program since 2006.

Negaunee City Manager Nate Heffron said he was pleased to announce this year’s recipients and is grateful for WPPI’s continued support.

“This is a great way to give back to our local non-profits. Negaunee is blessed to have a variety of organizations that help to improve our quality of life everyday,” Heffron said in the June press release.

WPPI Energy is a not-for-profit wholesale power provider and joint action agency of which the city of Negaunee is a member-owner.
