IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP — Two young women passed away after a single-vehicle accident on Lake Road near Powers Road in Ironwood Township Saturday, according to the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office.

When deputies were dispatched to the scene around 2:32 a.m. Saturday, they found the vehicle had run off the roadway, striking a tree and sustaining severe damage.

Two females, aged 15 and 18, passed away as a result of the crash, while a 20-year-old male survived the crash. The man had walked to a nearby residence to report the accident.

He was transported by Beacon Ambulance to Aspirus Ironwood Hospital, where he was treated and released, police said.

The investigation is ongoing and no names are being released as of this morning, police said. Police declined to comment on which individual was driving the vehicle.

Lake Road near Powers Road had been closed to traffic during the investigation but is now reopened. The Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Michigan State Police Wakefield Post, Beacon Ambulance and Gogebic County Victim Services.
