MARQUETTE– All Marquette-area alums, former and current employees, friends and supporters of Marquette Senior High School, Graveraet, J.D. Pierce, Bishop Baraga and Marquette Alternative High School were invited to the seventh annual Tom Baldini Holiday Homecoming at Vango’s in Marquette on Sunday.

The Marquette Area Public Schools Education Foundation established the Christmas tradition to provide visiting and local alumni and others a place to socialize and celebrate the holidays together. The event honors the late educator and local politician who passed away in December 2017.

“Every year Tom Baldini wanted to have an alumni event where people who graduated from any Marquette school, J.D. Pierce, Marquette high, Graveraet and the alternative school,” said Carolyn McDonald, MAPS Education Foundation board member. “I promised that I would do that for him every year and he passed away last Christmas, so this year is really personal and special to me. Today it’s in honor of Tom Baldini who was a teacher at the high school.”

Pizza, salad and a cash bar were available near an information table to inform attendees about the foundation’s scholarship fund. Money raised throughout the year goes toward a scholarship fund that gives a minimum of $500 to every Marquette graduate with a grade average of B or higher.

“It’s a way to recognize kids that work hard and we are very proud to do it,” McDonald said.

For those who wish to contribute to the fund, McDonald suggests sending donations by mail to the MAPS Education Foundation office located at the central office of Marquette Senior High School, 1203 W Fair Ave, Marquette, MI 49855.
