MARQUETTE — A group of cyclists touring the Upper Peninsula, known as Tour Da Yoop, Eh, rode through Marquette on Wednesday. Largely through word of mouth, participants from across the state joined the 1,200-mile journey. Riders were asked to commit to at least one day of the 10-day trip. The tour started in Manistique and continued clockwise around the Upper Peninsula.

Tour founder James Studinger, who grew up in Manistique, along with Allison Edwards and Allen Barr organized the circle tour as a way to highlight the beauty of the area and to promote routes that keep cyclists off busy highways as much as possible.

“The trip is meant to highlight all the paved road opportunities for bikers in the U.P. and to enjoy the beautiful scenery,” Studinger said. “It’s been a pretty big adventure. We’re having a blast.”

During the tour participants will ride roughly 120 miles a day, stopping in different cities each night.

“The people component just elevated it,” Studinger said about the different interactions the group has had on the tour.

Volunteers signed up to drive alongside the cyclists as support vehicles, carrying luggage, food, water, repair equipment and other supplies.

Riders will end the tour back in Manistique. Studinger hopes that interest in the Tour Da Yoop, Eh will grow and become an annual event. For more information about Tour Da Yoop, Eh, visit www.calloftheyooper.com.
