MARQUETTE — Art, science, math and history will collide this summer in the Calumet Art Center’s Summer Youth Art Immersion: Wild 4 Art 2018.
This eight-week program will incorporate youth ages 9 and up on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon, June 30 through August 11.
“I’m very excited to start all this,” Paige Gwyn, the new Calumet Arts Center executive director said. Gwyn, a certified art teacher, will be instructing the program.
Throughout the eight weeks, participants will be introduced to the skills and methods for various art mediums including, drawing, watercolor painting, weaving, zining, which is a newage design-thinking art form, and more.
“We will include sciences in nature based activities, and work with math and history to create a well-rounded experience,” Gwyn said.
Participants will do a lot of work outdoors to create intermedia art pieces with natural elements and make the program art-camp like by enjoying the summer weather, she added.
Class sizes will be limited to ensure that each participant receives one-on-one mentoring with the instructor.
“I’m hoping to get more youth into the art center and spread the arts education,” Gwyn said.
