Man sought on multiple charges

Kurt Robert Ochoa

ISHPEMING — Personnel from the Ishpeming Police Department is requesting help from the public in locating a man wanted on a four-count warrant.

The Marquette County Prosecutors office issued the warrant for Kurt Robert Ochoa, 49, of Ishpeming, relating to a domestic dispute call on Saturday, the IPD press release states. The charges include a felony count of assaulting, resisting, or obstructing a police officer, and three misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance, reckless driving, and malicious destruction of property.

Officers were called to 312 N. Sixth St. at approximately 8:36 p.m., officials say, and as they approached the residence on foot, Ochoa got into his vehicle.

“He refused commands to turn off the vehicle and exit it,” the release states.

Ochoa fled the scene by driving through a neighbor’s yard, and his vehicle was later discovered abandoned in the woods at the end of New York Street, officials say.

A search of the area was conducted with the assistance of the Michigan State Police Canine Unit, the Michigan State Police, the Negaunee Police Department and the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office.

Anyone with information on Ochoa’s whereabouts is asked to call 911 or contact the Ishpeming Police Department at 906-486-4416.
