MARQUETTE — The two people found dead inside a Marquette home following a fire Monday evening have been identified.
Krista Urbanc, 22, of Norway and Zachary Johnson, 23, of Marquette were found inside the home at 1026 Lincoln Ave. after emergency crews responded to a fire at the residence around 11:35 p.m., according to the Marquette Police Department.
The MPD along with the Marquette Fire Department and a fire marshal with the Michigan State Police continue to investigate the cause of the fire, officials said this morning.
Marquette Fire Chief Ian Davis said an administrative warrant was attained Tuesday to investigate the structure.
“They were investigating yesterday and were back on the scene at 9 a.m. today,” Davis said.
The city’s website lists the structure as a rental owned by Michael and Lynn Johnson.
The property was inspected and determined to be in compliance with city ordinances in October 2016, according to the website.
However, the website also shows that an initial structure inspection occurred in September 2016 and that the home only partially complied with ordinances. It is unclear why the initial inspection didn’t pass.
