KINGSFORD — Breitung Township Schools are taking steps to cope with the deaths of two Kingsford High School seniors killed in a crash Saturday in Sagola Township as they traveled to watch a Flivvers hockey game.

Authorities said Taylor Bosley, 18, was driving north on M-95 near the Marquette County line about 10:49 a.m. CT when she lost control of the vehicle and crossed the center line, colliding with a southbound vehicle.

Both Bosley and 17-year-old Jolene Treml were pronounced dead at the crash site.

The occupants of the second vehicle — Steven Anderson, 46, and Julie Anderson, 40, of Gwinn, along with two of their children — were transported to UP Health System-Marquette for treatment, Michigan State Police troopers said. No further information was available on their condition.

Speed and weather conditions are considered to be factors in the crash, troopers said. All involved were wearing seatbelts.

Assisting were the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, STAR Ambulance, Beacon Ambulance, Integrity Care EMS, Sagola Township Fire Department and Republic Township Fire and Rescue.

An Iron Mountain native, Bosley was the daughter of John and Lisa (Paupore) Bosley. She worked for the athletic department selling tickets at sporting events for the past six years, according to her obituary.

Visitation for Bosley will be 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.

Treml was born in Seoul, South Korea, and adopted by her parents, Jeffrey and Mary (McNamara) Treml, according to her obituary. She was a dietary aide at Freeman Nursing and Rehabilitation Community in Kingsford and had planned to attend Northeast Wisconsin Technical College next fall to pursue a nursing degree.

Visitation for Treml will be 3 to 7 p.m. today at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Funeral services are set for 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.

Classes weren’t set to resume after the holiday break until today. But the district initiated its crisis plan Saturday as soon as officials got the news, opening the high school cafeteria as a gathering place for students and families, said Craig Allen, superintendent of Breitung Township Schools.

“Kids were writing notes, sticky notes, and just grieving in their own way,” Allen said.

The Rev. Joe Gouin of American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford and another area pastor also came in to be with the students and staff, Allen said. The school gym was opened Sunday and Monday as well if anyone wanted to come in, and counselors and staff were available by phone or text if needed, Allen said.

The fact that school didn’t come back into session until today helped, Allen added.

“It gave us time to think, to plan … we can make sure all bases are covered,” he said.

Still, staff and officials expect Wednesday to “be a tough time for a lot of people,” when classes resume, Allen said. Being back among reminders of the two lost seniors and facing funerals through the week, “it’s going to be another wave of trauma for kids,” he said.

A group from eastern Michigan will have “comfort dogs” at the school Wednesday, Allen said.

Michigan State University senior Lexi Gussert offered her sympathies to Kingsford during Sunday’s Big Ten Conference women’s basketball opener with Rutgers in East Lansing.

Gussert, a former Crystal Falls Forest Park High School star, wore shoes with “Flivver Strong” and a heart.

“My way of honoring Flivver nation,” Gussert said on social media.

Gussert said Michigan State coaches Suzy Merchant and Tom Izzo will send signed basketballs to Kingsford show their support. Izzo is an Iron Mountain High School graduate.

“My heart, thoughts and prayers go out to Kingsford,” Gussert said. “Thinking about those two beautiful girls and that strong community.”

Gussert’s Forest Park basketball and volleyball teams played against Kingsford during the regular season. She also played on AAU basketball teams with Kingsford girls.

“I have so much love for that whole area,” Gussert said.
