Minor injury cited in M-28 crash in Chocolay

HARVEY — The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a one-car minor-injury crash that occurred on M-28 near Shot Point in Chocolay Township at 7:30 a.m. Thursday.

The driver, Morgan Sontag, was driving a 2007 Ford Escape east on M-28 when, according to witnesses, the driver attempted to pass a semi in the four-lane passing zone but on the right side of the road.

A semi-truck was traveling on the plowed inside lane at the time.

Sontag said she hit the slush and lost control, heading toward the shoulder and into the water-filled ditch. The vehicle rolled one and half times and landed on the roof. The four occupants were able to exit the vehicle with help from passersby.

Sontag was cited for driving too fast for conditions.

Safety belts were worn by all occupants, which prevented further injury. Assisting agencies on the scene were the Michigan State Police and UP Health System-Marquette EMS.

Starting at $3.23/week.
