MARQUETTE — What’s cuter than an event called “Baby Bear”?

The Upper Peninsula Children’s Museum is partnering with the Ore Dock Brewing Co. for Baby Bear, set for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Ore Dock, located at 114 W. Spring St., Marquette.

There will be arts and crafts stations, live music from local folk musician and storyteller Corinne Rockow sponsored by the Hiawatha Music Co-op, a scavenger hunt, balloon animals, “beary” tales, prizes and “a group roar.”

“We encourage kids to dress up as fuzzy woodland creatures for our Bear Cub Parade,” said Marnie Foucault, director of 8-18 Media at the UPCM. “Bring the cubs out to play on April 7 and let us hear them roar.”

The Ore Dock Brewing Co. is sponsor of the Festival of the Angry Bear, which is scheduled for April 9. The event will include live music and performances, food trucks, four bars and barrel-aged beer, limited releases and ceremonial tappings.

“When we decided that Angry Bear was going to be over 21 years old this year, we knew we were committed to planning a family-friendly event that would welcome all ages out of hibernation,” said Andrea Pernsteiner, co-founder and president of the Ore Dock Brewing Co., in an email.

The first annual Festival of the Baby Bear is giving the Ore Dock the “unique opportunity” to collaborate with the Upper Peninsula Children’s Museum to provide a variety of events for the cubs while celebrating craft beverages of all kinds, she said.

“The true feature of this event will be the carefully concocted craft soda flights, which will be sure to please all ages. And of course, a sneak peak of barrel-aged and kettle sour beers for the parents,” Pernsteiner said.

“Being a parent myself, I enjoy any opportunity to connect with other families in my community, especially when we can celebrate with music, art and camaraderie. After an especially long hibernation, I think this year, creating an opportunity for connection is especially important.”
