Saving water is essential for life, planet

Fahad Meshal Ali Hussain Baqer Al-abdullah, 15

The Earth loses 25,920 liters per day of water according to the Petanu Water Treatment Plant; and although it seems that there is endless amounts of water on Earth, studies show that society could run out of fresh water by 2040, according to an article titled “18 Surprising Projections about the Future of Water.” This is because the acts that humanity commits affect the amount of water we have left. These acts are caused by human inventions such as showers, toilets, sinks etc. This is decreasing the amount of water all animals as well as humans can survive on. We all know that all life depends on fresh water and that there is a limited supply of freshwater on Earth so why are we not taking better care of it?

Not only is water in a limited supply, people’s access to freshwater is unevenly distributed across the world. Should areas of the world that have lots of access share their resources with countries like Kuwait that do not have fresh water? It is very possible that water will become a resource that causes conflict between countries and around the world. Of course, this means that it could result in horrible situations between and in countries. All human beings need water in order to survive and if more and more people realize there is a water shortage, it could result maybe even in a world war. Of course the chances of this are low… It is possible. Every single day, there are a huge amount of credible websites providing articles on end, informing the public how water is quickly fading away. They all make it seem as if there are no ways to stop this from happening, but we can save small amounts of water every day.

Saving water is extremely simple, it just requires a few sacrifices from people which is asking people to decrease the amount of water we seem to be using daily. According to High Tide Technologies, nearly 30 million gallons of water is wasted globally just in a single day. However, that number could be reduced by taking the steps to do so. Some solutions are reducing the amount of time we use water for different activities such as bathing, cleaning, and lastly turning off the water after it is used rather than having it running. Just by doing this, a single person or family could save up to 35% of water use in their homes which will help and bring humanity a step closer to the right direction, according to an article titled “45+ Ways to conserve water in human homes/yards.”

Water loss is potentially one of the biggest threats humanity has to face. If people do not act soon, then the outcome could affect the amount of years living things have to survive due to water being one of an organism’s requirements to survive. In the meantime, society could find more solutions to battle these threats. It is not guaranteed that there will be a full solution anytime soon. But in the meantime, our goal is to bring awareness to this situation.
