Personal Legacy Workshop Monday

MARQUETTE — From 6-8 p.m,. Monday,, in the Dandelion Cottage Room, the Peter White Public Library will be hosting a Personal Legacy Workshop, a drop-in program that gives participants the opportunity to work individually on their writing with Heather Mlsna.

With a background in writing and marketing, Mlsna is the owner/operator of Last Letters/No Regrets, a professional writing service which serves individuals seeking to express themselves on paper, but who need help getting started. The goal of her service is to help people find healing and remembrance though writing.

Mlsna will help participants learn a quick, easy method of getting their stories and memories on paper. Projects include memoirs, letters, family histories, scrapbook and photo histories with stories, pet remembrances, journals, etc. Workshops will be the second Monday of every month. Writers can attend as many as they like until their project is complete.

NAMI set to hold support group

MARQUETTE — The National Alliance on Mental Illness-Alger/Marquette offers free, confidential peer support groups and educational meetings for individuals living with mental illness, and friends or families living with an individual with mental illness.

A support group will gather at 7 p.m. Monday in the Baraga Place Conference Room, 129 W. Baraga Ave., Marquette. For more information call 906-360-7107, or follow NAMI on Facebook.

In case of bad weather, if Northern Michigan University cancels evening classes, the NAMI meeting will also be canceled.

Northern Vegans to hold potluck

MARQUETTE — The public is invited to join Northern Vegans for a vegan potluck dinner at 6 p.m. Monday in the Shiras Room on the second floor of the Peter White Public Library at 217 N. Front St. in Marquette.

Finnish Flare pancake breakfast

MARQUETTE — The Marquette Lions Club announces the return of the Finnish Flare pancake breakfast from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 29 at the American Legion Post, 700 W. Bluff St, Marquette.

Tickets $9 adults, $5 ages 5-13 and under 5 free.

Nonprofit management event set

MARQUETTE — Northern Michigan University’s Continuing Education and Workforce Development Department presents “Essentials of Nonprofit Management” with Cedric Calhoun, FASAE, CAE.

Both sessions run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Ballroom IV of the Northern Center on Tuesday and April 14. This two-part lunch and learn event aims to highlight current best practices, lessons learned in the field and trends in effective nonprofit management.

Calhoun has more than 20 years of marketing, business development and membership and volunteer relations experience. He served as the executive vice president of the National Association of Enrolled Agents and brought about organizational change and financial sustainability by implementing aggressive governance changes and technology management strategies to ensure long-term growth.
