History on Tap event held Tuesday

MARQUETTE — The “White Hurricane” storm of November 1913 was the worst weather event ever to hit the Great Lakes.

More than 250 sailors died, and a dozen ships vanished, sinking with their entire crews. During a lull in the storm, the big steel freighter Henry B. Smith set sail from Marquette, never to be seen again for a hundred years.

The Marquette Maritime Museum’s Maritime History on Tap series presents Dan Fountain at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Ore Dock Brewing Co. as he shares historical photos and unique underwater video and sonar imagery of this historic local shipwreck.

The suggested donation at the door is $5.

This event is sponsored in part by grants from WE Energies Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs.
