To the Journal editor:

The citizens of the Upper Peninsula and our whole country should be aware that the mid-term elections of 2026 are in grave danger.

Trump has hired thousands of new national guard personnel to illegally police peaceful cities of his own choosing. He wants to claim insurrection where there is none. Our democracy and history of the promise of freedom are being threatened in a way most of us never thought possible.

Every citizen should ask themself what they can do to prevent this catastrophe and tragedy from happening to our country. Now is the time for great vigilance. I pray that God will help us to fight against tyranny and the loss of our great democracy, and “that the government of the people, by the people and for the people shall not perish from the earth.” — Abraham Lincoln, 1863, Gettysburg Address
