West End Update – City of Negaunee

City-wide Christmas event set for today

Nate Heffron, city manager, city of Negaunee

NEGAUNEE — Tinseltown is today! The city is excited to welcome this annual event that will bring Christmas revelers of all ages to the heart of downtown Negaunee from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The traditional downtown family-friendly festival brings back the nostalgia of yesterday. The Negaunee Downtown Development Authority, with special sponsors Fox Negaunee, Honor Credit Union, 906 Technologies, and Oberstar, UPEA, as well as many downtown and local businesses made the event possible.

Tinseltown is a must-do for any family looking for a fun night out where lasting holiday memories can surely be made. Maybe making a sweet treet at Campfire Coffee’s outdoor S’mores station, one of our new events!

This year’s festivities include the ever-popular Tunnel of Lights, cookie decorating at the Negaunee Eagles, hay rides by Marquette Hope, mini horse rides, and caroling and music at the bandshell.

The DDA welcomes back the Crafter’s Market at City Center/Negaunee Mall from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Don’t forget the annual wine tasting at the Negaunee VFW, starting at 7 p.m.

Additional vendors will be set up along Iron Street. Tinseltown attendees can pick out a Christmas tree from Miester’s Tree Farm, a wreath from Samara Floral or even make their own ornament. And, don’t forget about the many other wonderful downtown businesses with great deals awaiting you!

Feel free to get a little holiday cheer as you move along Iron Street by taking advantage of Negaunee’s Social District. Several vendors will be selling hot alcoholic beverages for those 21-years and older. Please be sure to familiarize yourself with our social district regulations, remember, no outside alcohol may be brought into the district.

The parade will start promptly at 6:30 p.m. and travel down Iron Street, ending at the bandshell where Santa himself with his magical power will light the Christmas Tree. He will also visit all the good little girls and boys at the Negaunee Elks. Hope you were good this year!

Those interested in being in the parade can contact Pete Munson at 906-361-8524, lineup begins at 5:30 on Tobin Street by the Negaunee Senior Center.

Hay rides will start and end near Jackson’s Pit at 4 p.m. with a brief break at 6 p.m. for the parade. Come early to catch a ride.

Please note parking will be limited on Iron Street and several other streets. Signs will designate where the no-parking areas will be. No parking will be allowed on Iron Street starting at 3 p.m., but some parking availability will be restored after the parade.

Come and forge, not only your adventure, but your holiday spirit and some wonderful memories in downtown Negaunee today
