ESCANABA — A group of Delta County residents who are working to recall three county commissioners filed petition signatures for the recall of Commissioner Bob Barron with the county clerk’s office Thursday.

Barron is the second commissioner to reach this step in the recall process, and if signature verification is successful his name will appear on the May 2024 ballot.

Petition circulators were able to collect 1,235 signatures to recall Barron.

The signatures will now be verified by the county clerk’s office for other disqualifications, such as duplicate names, the signer not living within Barron’s district (District 3), or other issues. The process is expected to be complete in 30 days or less.

According to state law, an officer who is being recalled may continue to perform the duties of his or her office until the result of the recall election is certified.

Only 1,001 of the signatures must be valid for the recall to move forward.
