Stambaugh crash investigated

CRYSTAL FALLS — A 63-year-old Illinois man was seriously injured in a one-vehicle crash Thursday night on Lake Ottawa Road in Stambaugh Township, the Iron County Sheriff’s Office said.

Driving a 2011 Dodge pickup truck, the man failed to negotiate a curve and hit a tree at about 7:13 p.m., Sheriff Ryan Boehmke said in a news release. He was transported to Aspirus Iron River Hospital and later airlifted to Aspirus Wausau, Wis.

The driver was not wearing a seat belt, deputies said. The crash, which was reported by an iPhone alert, remains under investigation.

Assisting were Iron County Central Dispatch, Aspirus EMS, West Iron County Fire Department, Northland Towing, Michigan State Police and Iron River Police Department.
