MARINETTE,–Marinette County sheriff’s deputies used a drone to help find horses that got loose early Tuesday north of Porterfield, Wis., which followed reports of both a minor collision and near collision on County Highway G.
In all, 10 horses were gathered, and taken home by the owner, Sheriff Randy Miller said.
In a news release, he summarized the incident:
Marinette County Dispatch received a call at about 4 a.m. from a citizen reporting a near collision with a horse. A deputy responded but was unable to locate the animal.
At approximately 5:14 a.m., a 911 call was received from the same area but the call was dropped.
At approximately 5:29 a.m. another 911 call was received reporting horses in the roadway. Deputies responded and located two horses, but learned that eight additional horses were missing.
During this time, a truck came through the area and had a slight collision with a horse, striking the mirror. The animal was not injured.
The drone, which was made possible by a donation from Faith Lutheran Church in Marinette, was used to find the remaining eight horses in a wooded area where the owner was able to load them into a trailer.
