West End Update – City of Negaunee

Negaunee home to new business

Nate Heffron, city manager, city of Negaunee

NEGAUNEE — Negaunee’s newest business brings fashion to Irontown. Modern Drift Boutique, located at the corner of U.S. 41 and Teal Lake Avenue next door to Irontown Pasties, opened earlier this summer, and is ready to serve your fashion and gift needs.

Owner and fashion connoisseur Savannah Sevegney is making her dream of working in the fashion industry come true with the opening of her new boutique.

Savannah, at age 19, is by far the youngest entrepreneur that I have had to pleasure to meet, is very knowledgeable, and energetic!

The products she offers are made in the USA, with many from Michigan whenever she can find them. Savannah especially likes featuring designs made in the Upper Peninsula.

So far, Modern Drift Boutique has a number of products made locally, but Savannah is always looking for new products that will be a good fit for her customers. She even carries bracelets made by an even younger entrepreneur who is only16!

“I really wanted to play off of being near Teal Lake. I’ve always wanted to live on a lake, but now I get to work near a lake every day, I can see it from my shop. This is what my line of fashion items are centered around, being near the water.” Savannah said.

Besides clothing, offerings of jewelry, soaps, lotions, cards, and gifts, apparel lines the shelves and racks throughout the store.

Why Negaunee, being from West Ishpeming?

“I like what Negaunee is doing. The community seems to be on the rise. It’s the center of where everything is happening-it’s just a friendly place,” Savannah said.

Obviously, being so young, she didn’t accomplish all of this by herself. Her parents, especially her mother Jennifer, have had a huge hand in helping make this dream come true. We will learn more about Jennifer’s story in another article later, as the two work at the same location but in different businesses!

Savannah is taking online fashion merchandizing classes through the Liberty University. Meanwhile, she hopes to gain further experience as it pertains to the marketing of her business.

One area she intends to work on next is increasing the accessibility of her products to everyone, by developing her website for online sales. Those looking to see some of Savannah’s products can find her on the Modern Drift’s Facebook page.

But those of you who live in the Negaunee area, or may be visiting, stop on in. Modern Drift is open Tuesday through Thursday, noon to 6 p.m., Friday’s 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday’s, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m..

While I admit that I’m not the one to look to for fashion advice, I do feel this boutique will have great appeal. It’s not what you would expect for a community our size, but it is the right fit.

I encourage everyone to take a look for themselves and help support this young lady and wish her the best here in Negaunee.
