MUNISING – Pictures Rocks National Lakeshore has a new chief ranger, said Superintendent Grant Petersen. Larry D. Hach has transferred from Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park in downstate Empire. Hach will manage the visitor services and land management at Pictured Rocks. He’s responsible for law enforcement, park safety, fire control, search and rescue, emergency medical services and land management.

MARQUETTE – A special meeting of the Upper Peninsula Crafts Council will be held in Marquette Friday, it was announced by Charles Follo of Escanaba. President. The meeting, scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Peter White Public Library, is for all members of the council and others interested in crafts. Several important matters stemming from the meeting held here May 3 are on the agenda, Follo announced, including election of officers, planning and scheduling of the fifth annual Upper Peninsula Crafts Conference and Exhibit, to be held at Northern Michigan University next spring and arrangements for showing in several communities of the “Best of Show” exhibit from this year’s crafts conference in Houghton May 4. Included in the crafts exhibit, which will be in Marquette July 26 for showing at the annual “Art on the Rocks” exhibition sponsored by the Lake Superior Creative Arts Association, are the outstanding pieces of weaving, stitchery, metal work, jewelry, pottery and wood carving from the Houghton exhibit.
