Dickinson OKs wage study for controller
IRON MOUNTAIN — A wage study will be conducted for the Dickinson County controller’s office, even though Controller Brian Bousley has resisted the idea in the past.
The county board voted 4-1 Monday to authorize the study, with Commissioner Joe Stevens voting no. Although Bousley was absent, the agenda item was added at the request of Commissioner Barbara Kramer.
Stevens said he wasn’t necessarily opposed to a study, but argued Bousley should be in attendance for a decision. The controller was attending the Great Lakes Homeland Security Training Conference & Expo in Grand Rapids.
Over the past three years, independent compensation reviews have been conducted for nearly all county positions by MGT Consulting Group of Bay City. A number of jobs have seen an increase in pay scale, while a few have remained at the same level.
In other action Monday, the county board:
≤ Accepted with regret the resignation of Alex Sieminski, assistant prosecuting attorney, effective June 2.
≤ Heard citizen Teresa Maycroft report on “The Greater Magistrates Tour” that came to Iron Mountain on Thursday, noting no commissioners attended. The tour is led by David Clements and Joe Oltmann, who have claimed corrupt officials and rigged voting machines robbed former President Donald Trump of victory in 2020. Maycroft said citizens may act in the future to seize voting machines if there is no action by the county to adopt an election system that is entirely paper ballot. To date, no court challenge has produced evidence of fraud or irregularities that would have changed the election outcome. Last month, Fox News reached a $787.5 million settlement with Dominion Voting Systems, which accused the network of pushing conspiracies that harmed the company.
≤ Heard Chairman Henry Wender report the Dickinson County Road Commission has had a weak response to efforts to hire summer help at $14 an hour for applicants at least age 18.
≤ Approved a one-year maintenance agreement with Otis Elevator for elevators in the courthouse and correctional center at $3,838.
≤ Heard Commissioner John Degenaer Jr. report wind damage to the fence at Norway Speedway at the county fairgrounds.
≤ Approved a request from the Dickinson Area Band to have concerts at the Lake Antoine Park bandshell on June 28, July 4, July 12, July 19 and July 26.
