Abandoned mine shaft in Ishpeming collapses; portion of Bluff Street closed
ISHPEMING — A portion of Bluff Street is currently closed after an abandoned mine shaft in Ishpeming collapsed Thursday afternoon.
According to a Facebook post from the city of Ishpeming, a sinkhole appeared along Bluff Street, causing Bluff and the interesection of Bluff and Jasper streets to be closed.
The city says that nobody was injured and no city services were interrupted due to the collapse.
In the post, the city strongly urged unauthorized personnel to stay away from the site until further notice.
