South Range 4th of July Committee announces Valentine’s Day Dance

SOUTH RANGE — The South Range 4th of July Committee is hosting a Valentine’s Day dance on this Saturday, Feb. 11.

Committee Chairman Mike Reiner said the dance will take place at the South Range VFW from 7 to 11 p.m. and Slick Nickel will provide live music.

The dance, said Reiner, is a fundraiser for the village Independence Day celebration which for years, has been one of the most popular Fourth of July celebrations in the Copper Country.

Last year, the committee held their annual parade on the Fourth, in spite of cold, rainy weather. Planned fireworks were postponed until the following Friday, by which time weather had improved.

The celebration ran from 8 a.m. until dusk and included a flea market, cornhole and horseshoe tournaments, and of course, the parade.

This is the 11th annual dance sponsored by the committee, along with the annual polka festival, which is also a well-attended event.

Slick Nickel is a popular band known for its ’80s-era dance music, said Reiner.

Like last year, he said, the cover charge is $5 per person, and there will also be a 50/50 raffle and a gift basket grand prize.
