Alger Access: All About Town with Mary Jane
Pictured above left is Sand Point, where people look longingly at Grand Island, wondering if it will freeze enough this year for the walk over to view the icicles. Actually appears that the Eben Ice caves will be a much safer trip. I no longer make any of them, too old. One lady inquired if folks live over there (the island) year round. Of course, I replied in the negative. Guess that is what makes it so very interesting. This time of the winter, the main focal point always seems to be Lake Superior and how well it’s freezing over, etc. That’s shown here in the photo at right at the Tannery, as people come and go with their fishing shanties, etc. Here we see anglers coming off the ice near the end of the day. In the photo below, our family time participating in the Trenary Outhouse Classic, over 15 years ago. We made the mistake of making the outhouse out of REAL lumber and it was very heavy to push down the route. We had not taken that into consideration. I believe the remnants still exist in one of my daughters garage deep in a corner. However, we put a lot into costuming as the name of it was Save the Queen and I guess I turned out to be the queen. Guess we got a prize for the prettiest which it obviously was. The temperature that day never rose above 16 degrees. Brrrrr!
