Fatal structure fire reported in Marinette County

WAUSAUKEE, Wis. — One person has died in connection with a Monday fire in Marinette County, Wisconsin.

At approximately 9:16 p.m. Monday, Marinette County dispatch was notified of a structure fire along Elizabeth Street in the village of Wausaukee.

One person died in connection with the fire, according to a press release from the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office. Medical examiner Kalynn Van Ermen ordered an autopsy to determine the victim’s identity.

At the request of the MCSO, the state fire marshal at the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation was contacted to assist in the investigation.

The MCSO and DCI are conducting the investigation into the cause of the fire.

The Wausaukee Fire Department, Middle Inlet Fire Department, Wausaukee Rescue, Wisconsin Public Service, Wisconsin Fire Marshal’s Office, Marinette County Cispatch, Marinette County Medical Examiner’s Office and the MCSO assisted at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
