COVID-19 cases show uptick in Delta County

ESCANABA — Local data Wednesday showed an uptick in COVID-19 activity from the previous week in Delta County, while Menominee County numbers held steady.

Delta County recorded 31 confirmed positives since Sept. 7, up from 25 the week before, while Menominee County had 25, only one case more for the week’s span, according to figures posted on the Public Health of Delta and Menominee Counties website Wednesday. Delta County also had 38 probable cases and Menominee County 14 probables in that time period. Neither county reported a new virus-related death.

The PHDM website Wednesday had Delta County at 8,593 confirmed positives, 2,737 probable cases and 164 deaths since the pandemic began. Menominee County has had 4,429 confirmed positives, 1,995 probables and 68 deaths. The deaths included confirmed and probable.

On the state level, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Tuesday added 307 confirmed positives since Sept. 6 to the Upper Peninsula’s tally: 65 in Dickinson County, 48 in Marquette County, 31 in Iron County, 29 in Menominee County, 27 in Delta County, 19 in Chippewa County, 18 in Schoolcraft and Houghton counties, 12 in Alger County, 11 in Gogebic and Mackinac counties, seven in Ontonagon County, five in Baraga County, and three in Keweenaw and Luce counties.

New virus-related deaths in the Upper Peninsula for the week included two in Ontonagon County and one each in Dickinson, Iron, Marquette, Houghton and Gogebic counties.

Using only the MDHHS figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Tuesday has had 59,063 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 900 deaths since pandemic tracking began in March 2020.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Tuesday had Keweenaw County at 554 confirmed cases and 61 probable, and 12 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 747 confirmed cases and 861 probable, 14 confirmed deaths and two probable deaths; Ontonagon County, 1,078 confirmed, 123 probable and 40 deaths, three probable; Alger County, 1,200 confirmed, 787 probable and eight deaths, seven probable; Schoolcraft County, 1,243 confirmed cases and 793 probable, 14 deaths and four probable; Mackinac County, 1,858 confirmed cases and 953 probable, 29 deaths and four probable; Baraga County, 1,948 confirmed cases, 398 probable and 55 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 2,872 confirmed cases and 380 probable, 72 deaths and 17 probable; Gogebic County, 3,235 confirmed cases and 598 probable, 43 deaths and 31 probable; Chippewa County, 3,933 confirmed cases and 5,694 probable, and 91 deaths, 17 probable; Menominee County, 4,418 confirmed cases, 1,984 probable and 62 deaths, 12 probable; Dickinson County, 5,711 confirmed cases and 2,823 probable, 94 deaths and 23 probable; Houghton County, 7,740 confirmed cases, 1,201 probable, 92 deaths and 12 probable; Delta County, 8,573 confirmed cases and 2,714 probable, 138 deaths and 27 probable; and Marquette County, 13,953 confirmed cases, 3,746 probable and 136 deaths, 14 probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Tuesday had 18,375 new confirmed and probable coronavirus positives in Michigan since Sept. 6, or an average of about 2,625 cases per day for the week, for a total of 2,804,588 cases since COVID tracking began. The state for that time period added 196 confirmed and probable deaths attributed to the virus to reach 38,317.
