Publisher/editor takes reins

HOUGHTON — Candace Wolf, a 24-year veteran producer of daily newspapers, has been named editor and publisher of The Daily Mining Gazette effective this week.

She leaves the staff of the Observer-Reporter in Washington, Pennsylvia, to accept the Houghton position. She served as night editor and editorial production manager for multiple daily and weekly publications, including the Observer-Reporter where she was on the staff since 1998.

“I am thrilled to be chosen to lead the staff of the Mining Gazette, and I look forward to being part of the Houghton community and the entire Copper Country region. I am excited to return local management to the region’s leading newspaper. I believe the Mining Gazette is the trusted local news source and the best advertising medium to help the local economy grow.

“The Mining Gazette has journalized this region for 163 years, and I want to continue that service with a strong local news report that celebrates the successes of the region and the accomplishments of its people,” Wolf said.

She was introduced to the newspaper’s staff last week by Charles Jarvis, regional publisher for Ogden Newspapers Inc. “This is a new day for the Mining Gazette and with Candace’s leadership we are committed to the success of this newspaper,” Jarvis told the staff.

Wolf said she was passionate about local newspapers and looks forward to meeting community leaders, as well as the newspaper’s advertisers and readers. She is eager to become a recognizable face within the four counties of the Mining Gazette coverage area.

Wolf earned her B.A. in English at Mercyhurst University and recently acquired a Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership from the same school. She and her husband Damian have two adult children.
