Dozens of Dickinson-Iron COVID cases reported, but no new deaths

IRON MOUNTAIN — Local data Thursday showed Dickinson County with 24 new confirmed COVID-19 positives and Iron County 21 in the past week.

Dickinson County also had 10 probable coronavirus cases and Iron County one probable since June 30, according to figures posted Thursday on the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department’s Facebook page. Neither county had a new death blamed on the virus.

The DIDHD reclassified 48 people in Dickinson County and 19 in Iron County as recovered from the virus.

The DIDHD on Thursday had Dickinson County at 5,278 confirmed positives and 2,546 probable cases to date, with 7,568 recovered, 114 deaths and 142 cases still active. For Iron County, the agency had 2,504 confirmed cases to date and 358 probables, with 2,664 recovered, 87 deaths and 111 active cases.

On the state level, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Tuesday added 238 confirmed positives since June 28 to the Upper Peninsula’s tally: 53 in Marquette County, 40 in Gogebic County, 35 in Delta County, 29 in Houghton County, 18 in Iron County, 13 in Dickinson County, 12 in Menominee County, eight in Chippewa County, seven in Mackinac County, six in Ontonagon County, five in Baraga County, four in Keweenaw and Alger counties, three in Schoolcraft County and one in Luce County. The state also had the two virus-related deaths in Delta County.

Using only the MDHHS figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Tuesday has had 55,136 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 865 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Tuesday had Keweenaw County at 505 confirmed cases and 58 probable, and 12 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 690 confirmed cases and 835 probable, 13 confirmed deaths and two probable deaths; Ontonagon County, 960 confirmed, 112 probable and 37 deaths, three probable; Schoolcraft County, 1,112 confirmed cases and 758 probable, 13 deaths and three probable; Alger County, 1,117 confirmed, 714 probable and eight deaths, six probable; Mackinac County, 1,750 confirmed cases and 909 probable, 28 deaths and three probable; Baraga County, 1,829 confirmed cases, 348 probable and 53 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 2,488 confirmed cases and 353 probable, 71 deaths and 17 probable; Gogebic County, 2,978 confirmed cases and 551 probable, 40 deaths and 30 probable; Chippewa County, 3,733 confirmed cases and 5,394 probable, and 88 deaths, 17 probable; Menominee County, 4,153 confirmed cases, 1,779 probable and 61 deaths, 11 probable; Dickinson County, 5,250 confirmed cases and 2,535 probable, 91 deaths and 22 probable; Houghton County, 7,194 confirmed cases, 1,157 probable, 87 deaths and 11 probable; Delta County, 8,268 confirmed cases and 2,335 probable, 136 deaths and 25 probable; and Marquette County, 13,109 confirmed cases, 3,369 probable and 127 deaths, 11 probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Tuesday had 13,102 new confirmed and probable coronavirus positives in Michigan since June 28, or an average of about 1,872 cases per day for the week, for a total of 2,619,533 cases since COVID tracking began. The state for that time period added 64 confirmed and probable deaths attributed to the virus to reach 36,982.

The state updates COVID-19 data once a week, on Tuesdays.

For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services on Thursday had Marinette County at 12,279 COVID-19 positives, up 59 since June 30, and 132 deaths, up one; Vilas County, 5,626 positives, up 49, and 91 deaths; Forest County, 2,860 positives, up eight, and 52 deaths; Iron County, 1,550 positives, up 10, and 48 deaths; and Florence County, 1,143 positives, up 10, and 17 deaths.
