West Iron County names top students in Class of 2022

IRON RIVER — The West Iron County School District has announced its top students in the graduating Class of 2022.

≤ Aurora Dahl is the daughter of Allen and Amy Dahl of Gaastra, who both graduated from West Iron County in 1994. Since her junior year in high school, Dahl has been a member of the National Honor Society and Student of the Week her sophomore and senior years. She has participated in tennis, basketball, track, and cross country throughout high school. Dahl serves the community through Key Club, which participates in blood drives, tutoring, concession stands and more. Dahl plans to attend Michigan Technological University to pursue a degree in human biology, with the goal of becoming an anesthesiologist.

≤ Teagan Leonarduzzi is the daughter of Greg and Stacy Leonarduzzi of Iron River. She has lived in Iron River her whole life. Throughout high school, Leonarduzzi has participated in National Honor, Key Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Forest Club, Student Council and was a class officer. She also played basketball, volleyball and golf. Leonarduzzi plans to study forestry at Michigan Technological University.

≤ Jenna Gray is the daughter of Mason and Janice Gray of Iron River. She currently is the secretary of the National Honor Society. She has also been on the A honor roll throughout high school. Gray has taken four years of symphony and enjoyed participating in track and field. She volunteers at Good News Club and in her church’s nursery. Gray plans to attend Central Michigan University toward becoming a pediatrician.

≤ Eliana Holroyd is the daughter of Adam and Jessica Holroyd of Iron River. She has been on the A honor roll every year and is in National Honor Society. Holroyd played golf in her freshman year and has done several clubs such as Forest Club, student council and Business Professionals of America. She is involved in the community theater group, The West End Players. Holroyd has done a total of 18 musicals since she joined at age 8. Gray plans to pursuing a mathematics degree at the University of Michigan, where she was accepted into the Literature Science and Art program.

≤ Ava Richardson is the daughter of Craig Richardson and Kelly Sartorelli of Iron River. She is a member of Key Club and served as president for three years, as well as Forest Club, National Honor Society, student council and had two class officer positions. Richardson also played volleyball and golf. She is the student representative for the Parks and Recreation committee and the current Miss Iron County. Richardson plans to attend Michigan State University, where she will go into the Lyman Briggs program to major in neuroscience on a pre-medical path.

≤ Riley Porier is the daughter of Duane and Terry Porier of Iron River. She has participated in Key Club, National Honor Society, Forest Club, student council and has been class president. Porier competed in dance through Inclusion Dance and was a libero in volleyball. This year she was an editor for the yearbook and placed third in the state for Business Club in the video production team event, which qualified her to attend the national competition in May. Porier plans to major in art and design at Northern Michigan University.

≤ Madison Berutti is the daughter of Mike and Kristi Berutti of Iron River. She has been on the golf, tennis, track and cross-country teams during her four years of high school. Berutti is a member of the National Honor Society, student council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and a class officer. She plans to study business at the University of Iowa.

≤ Hailee Bradshaw is the daughter of Michelle Schandel of Gaastra. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Key Club and Forest Club. Bradshaw participated in cross country her first three years of high school and is a member of the track team this year. Outside of school sports, she played club soccer all four years of high school and has played with a travel team the past two years. Bradshaw plans to major in secondary education at Northern Michigan University.

≤ Riley Wiegand is the daughter of Vincent and Chara Wiegand of Iron River. She has lived in Iron River her whole life. Wiegand has taken part in many extracurricular activities such as National Honor Society, Forest Club, student council, Key Club and Business Professionals of America. She played basketball all four years of high school and volleyball her sophomore and junior years. Wiegand plans to major in human biology in the Lyman Briggs program at Michigan State University.

≤ Landon Sundelius is the son of Nick Baumgartner and Tina Sundelius of Iron River. He has gone to West Iron County Schools his entire life, where he participated in track and field, cross country, Forest Club, student council and National Honor Society. Sundelius plans to study toward a marketing degree at Michigan State University.

West Iron County will have its graduation ceremonies at 5:30 p.m. May 27.
