Prestin announces bid for 108th state representative seat

CEDAR RIVER — Dave Prestin of Cedar River has filed his paperwork with the State of Michigan for his candidacy in the 108th District for the House of Representatives as a Republican candidate.

Prestin has been a businessman of over 27 years. He said he has a proven track record of turning around failed business models and properties as a career. Most recently with Cedar River Plaza from 2007-2017 and GameTime, a sports bar and restaurant in downtown Milwaukee from 1997-2007.

Since moving to Cedar River, Prestin has been with the Cedarville Township Volunteer Fire Department and served as assistant fire chief in 2012 for almost eight years. In 2013, Prestin began working in the medical field and remains a member of Mid County Rescue 114. Prestin has worked with the Mid County Rescue Reorganization Committee to realign their business structure in order to make the organization sustainable and transitioned the organization to a fully funded Basic Life Support (BLS) squad. Prestin has continued to advance his training and became a fully licensed paramedic currently working at Aurora Bay Area Medical Center.

Prestin said this experience gave him his first major involvement in state government as he worked with legislators to fight bureaucratic red tape that would have crippled community emergency medical services.

Prestin was elected in 2018 and continues to serve as the District 6 Commissioner on the Menominee County Board of Commissioners. During his time on the board, Prestin said he has shown fiscal responsibility by fostering a path towards a balanced budget, initiated a more fiscally-sound strategy for the Municipal Employee Retirement System and stopped projects that would have wasted taxpayer dollars. Prestin has advocated for the Menominee County Library millage and has supported projects that strengthen the community. Prestin currently serves on the Finance, Fair Board, 911, and Health Department County Committees.

Prestin has been a board member for Alger Delta Cooperative Electric Association since March 2014. Prestin has served on the following committees: Executive, Finance and Labor Relations, and has held the positions of Interim Manager, President, Vice President, and Chair of the Labor Relations Committee.

Prestin has been married to Kathie Prestin for over 21 years and has a 15-year-old daughter Mattie.

Prestin is an avid outdoorsman, he loves to hunt, fish, snowmobile, ski and do just about anything outdoors. Prestin is a part-time substitute teacher for Stephenson Area Public School and is also a member of the Stephenson Lions Club.

Prestin said he is running as a pro-business, pro-life, pro-law enforcement, pro-2nd Amendment, and pro-education Republican.
